The Society Supper Salon
NYC Tenement Museum
9.01.09

The Dinner Belle was recently invited back to prepare an encore meal for The Society's "Supper Salon Series." Against the backdrop of the beautiful and historic Lower East Side Tenement Museum, we created a six course feast that perfectly complimented the unique surroundings and seasonal late summer harvest. While our last Society event, the V33 Supper Salon, was modern and sleek, this event basked in old New York nostalgia, complimenting the cuisine of early American immigrants, whose preserved kitchens and living quarters were impressively on display throughout this historic site. The Dinner Belle presented an old world Charcuterie Spread to start the evening, and then moved on to serve a bountiful family style menu atop antique china, including: Watermelon & Feta Mojito Salad, Heirloom Tomato Stacks (as seen above), Chicken Cushions delicately wrapped in Proscuitto di Parma (fresh off the boat from Italy), and a Duet of Handmade Ravioli topped with mozzarella balls and a farm fresh cherry tomato glaze. For dessert, Chef Belle's take on the classic Milk & Cookies combo offered an ode to her American childhood: just out of the oven jumbo chocolate chip cookies (topped with fleur de sel, of course!) were paired with Zacapa Rum spiked chocolate-chipotle milk shots. The evening succeeded in taking us all back to a simpler time and celebrated NYC's rich tenement history, while all the while reminding us that great food and friends are timeless!
